Our Commitment to Digital Accessibility

Published: March 2026 Last Updated: March 2026

Raleigh Rebuild Lyceum is committed to ensuring that our digital content is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe that public-interest information should be available to everyone.

Our Accessibility Standards

We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. Our approach includes:

Readable Typography

We use clear, legible fonts with appropriate sizing and line spacing to support readability for visitors of all ages and visual abilities.

Plain Language

Content is written in clear, accessible language. We prefer common words over jargon and explain technical terms when they must be used.

Structured Headings

All content uses proper heading hierarchy to support screen readers and help users navigate the page structure.

Usable Contrast

We maintain sufficient color contrast between text and backgrounds to ensure readability for users with visual impairments.

Alt Text

All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked to be skipped by screen readers.

Mobile-Friendly Design

Our content is designed to be fully functional on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers.

Ongoing Improvement

Accessibility is not a one-time achievement but an ongoing commitment. We regularly review our content and design to identify and address accessibility barriers. Our process includes:

  • Regular accessibility audits of new content
  • Testing with assistive technologies
  • Incorporating accessibility into our content development process
  • Responding to user feedback about accessibility concerns

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some content may have limitations:

  • Some older archived content may not meet current accessibility standards
  • Third-party embedded content may have its own accessibility limitations
  • PDF documents may require alternative formats to be fully accessible

Report Accessibility Concerns

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our site, we want to know. Please contact us with:

  • The page or section where you encountered the barrier
  • A description of the accessibility issue
  • Any assistive technology you were using

We will respond within 5 business days and work to address the issue promptly.
